Online Gambling Needs Awareness
Online gambling is any type of gambling conducted via the internet. This includes online casinos, poker games and online sports betting amongst many others. The first online gambling site opened for the public, was ticketing by the now famous Liechtenstein International Poker Room in October 1994. Since then there have been online gambling sites developed all over the world, with some countries even beginning to regulate online gambling. However there are still other countries which do not have online gambling regulation at all, although they have online casinos.
Many countries all around the world have laws in place against online gambling and this includes all of the European Union members as well as certain countries in the USA including Delaware, Nevada and Oregon. Many of these states have developed written laws against online gambling, or have made attempts to pass laws prohibiting online gambling, however they have not been successful. There is very little regulation of online casinos in the United States and there are no legal restrictions at all on online gambling either through state or federal laws. There are no controls exercised over the websites in the USA where people can gamble online either.
Some states have made efforts to address the problem of online casinos and online gambling in general, such as Oregon, where in 2021 they created a task force to find out more about online gambling. The task force found that online casinos were being used by criminals and were being used for gambling, extortion and fraud. However, it did find that some states were having difficulties in regulating online casinos because the state did not have any online gambling regulation, nor did it have any online gambling legislation. The lack of any sort of regulatory body has left this industry free to operate in a grey area and criminals have abused this situation. Online gambling should be regulated just like any other business and it should be remembered that online casinos are only one sector of an industry that encompasses many other industries, which includes people, who are also online at all times. So, it is in everyone’s best interest that online casinos are regulated just like any other business and it is also in everyone’s best interest that online gambling be kept out of the country that it originated from so that crime does not come to pass.
